Normal skin

You can determine your skin type by the amount of oil your skin produces. The determinants of this are your genes, diet, stress level, medication & your skincare regimen.

Of the five skin types, the first is normal skin. It is characterized by its even tone, soft, and smooth texture, and absence of visible pores, blemishes and greasy patches. The surface of such skin is translucent, and is neither oily nor dry. It has a good glow due largely to good blood circulation and health.

Women with such complexion may, on occasion, have pimples at the onset of menstruation due to increased hormonal activity, making the sebaceous glands overactive. Fortunately, however, they do not suffer from acne. Being beautiful, such skin needs a lot of care without which it will show early signs of aging and wrinkling.

Skin care for normal skin: All people with such skin need do is to clean it twice a day with a mild baby soap and water and tone it with rose water. At night, apply a thin layer of home-made moisturizer. Whenever your skin becomes a little oily or dry, do the following:

After you cleanse your face each time, use a mild freshener to keep your pores tight and remove all traces of cleanser that may cling to the skin. Also, use an astringent with low alcohol content and avoid facing the sun directly and don't let the heat from a blow dryer on to your face. To retain your face's surface moisture, use a mild, oil-based moisturizer under your makeup.

Use a sunscreen to postpone the drying and aging effects of exposing your face to the sun. Once a fortnight, use a non-drying mask to stimulate the blood circulation and smoothen your skin's surface. You can also use essential oils such as chamomile, fennel, geranium, lavender, lemon, patchouli, rose and sandalwood. You could also use creams and lotions containing Vitamin A, C and E to make your skin texture smooth and soft and counter the ill-effects of free radicals.

Even if your skin is normal, you still have to give it regular care. Your skin, like any other skin type, is constantly assaulted by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules formed in the skin when it is exposed to the environment, pollution, or sunlight.

Cleanser for normal skin: Apply whole milk gently to your face and then rinse with water thoroughly.

Facial scrub: Mix 1 tbsp of whole milk with ¼ tsp almond oil. Make a thin paste of this and apply it to your already washed face and allow it to dry. Once dry, apply a second layer and allow it to dry. Continue in this way until you have four layers on your face. Once your mask is hard and dry, wash off with lots of warm water.

Home remedy: Mash ¼ of a ripe banana, and apply it on your face, avoiding the area under your eyes. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and then wash off with cool water. This will help take away the dead skin and make your face look full of life and healthy.

If you have normal skin, consider yourself very lucky and do your best to look after it.
